@FGCU_WTEN Claims Doubles Title, Goes 6-0 to Cap Off Spring Invite

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women's tennis team capped off the Spring Invite by going 6-0 in doubles play, including a 'B' draw championship claimed by Laura Falceto Font and Breana Stampfli, on Monday morning at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

"The girls had a great weekend of tennis," said FGCU head coach Courtney Vernon. "We won multiple flights of singles play and finished the last day strong by winning all six doubles matches. We're looking forward to training this week as we prepare for FIU and the opening match of the dual season on Saturday."

The FGCU duo of Falceto Font (Zaragoza, Spain/El Pilar Maristas Zaragoza) and Stampfli (Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent) started the day by winning a back-and-forth match versus Judith Bohnenkamp and Barbora Kijasova of Barry University, 7-6 (4). The Green and Blue jumped out to a 5-2 advantage and looked to cruise to the 'B' draw title. However, the Barry tandem fought back to take a 6-5 lead before Falceto Font and Stampfli finished strong to force a tiebreak and ultimately win the match by the aforementioned margin.

The Eagles' doubles title marked their third of the weekend as Joselyn Treyes Albarracin (Guayaquil, Ecuador/InterAmerican Academy) and Julianna Curtis (Tampa, Fla./Allendale Academy) claimed 'B' and 'C' draw championships in singles play on Sunday afternoon. Treyes Albarracin and Curtis were also paired together in doubles play and went 2-0 on Monday with wins over Southern Miss (6-4) and Arkansas State (6-4). Including singles play, they each only dropped only one match on the weekend as they were defeated by Jaide Collins and Anna Morozova in doubles action on Sunday.

FGCU's third and final doubles duo of Elizabeth Means (Washington, D.C./Wiregrass Ranch HS) and Julia Ascúa (Santa Fe, Argentina/Domngo G. Silva) also took the court on Monday and posted a 2-0 record with a pair of hard-fought wins over teams from Arkansas State (7-5) and Northwestern State (6-4).

Following their 'B' draw title, Falceto Font and Stampfli returned to the court and capped off the weekend as they again came from behind to secure a 7-5 win against Northwestern State's Ilijana Ivic and Barbora Kollarova.
