FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball team won its eighth consecutive match on Tuesday night, earning a 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17) victory over in-state foe Bethune-Cookman at Alico Arena.

The Green and Blue, owning a 4-0 all-time record against the Wildcats, snapped Bethune-Cookman's three-match winning streak and improved to 12-7 overall with the win, while B-CU fell to 3-19 overall.

Sophomore Jill Hopper (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown HS) led the Eagles with 17 kills and 15 digs. Junior Kaitlin Holm (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Marshall) hit .440 and racked up 13 kills. Sophomore Olivia Mesner (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River HS) chipped in with 10 kills and a block and junior Christine Pinder (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS/Houston/Central Florida CC) tallied 15 digs and six kills. Libero Whitney Masters (Muncie, Ind./Wapahani HS) finished with a team-high 20 digs, while the setting duo of sophomore Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) and junior Courtney Greenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Juniata College) racked up 46 assists and 14 digs combined.

FGCU hit .265 as a team, while holding the Wildcats to a .175 hitting percentage in the four-set win. The Eagles shot out of the gate with a .318 hitting percentage in the first set and after stumbling in the second set (.108), the Green and Blue hit .333 and .289 in sets three and four, respectively.

FGCU will be back in action this weekend when they travel north to take on Lipscomb (10-8, 7-0 A-Sun) and Northern Kentucky (17-3, 5-2 A-Sun) in Atlantic Sun Conference action. Friday night's (Oct. 12) match will pair the only undefeated teams in the A-Sun as the Lady Bisons host the Eagles at Allen Arena. The Green and Blue will then battle the A-Sun's newest member Northern Kentucky on Saturday, Oct. 13.
