FORT MYERS, Fla. - Seniors Chelsea Lyles (Colorado Springs, Col./Harrison HS Western Nebraska CC) and Emma Racila (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot/College of Charleston) picked up 10 kills each and junior Holly Youngquist (Estero, Fla./Evangelical Christian) recorded a game-high 24 digs as the FGCU volleyball team fell to Kennesaw State, 3-1 (24-26, 25-15, 13-25, 14-25), in A-Sun play on Friday night at Alico Arena.

With the loss the Eagles fall to 4-14 overall (1-3 A-Sun), while the Owls improve to 11-9 (4-1 A-Sun) on the season.

Youngquist's 24 digs were a game-high. Lyles and Racila both finished with a team-high 10 kills. Lyles also hit .292 and picked up a solo block on the night. Sophomore Brittany Muse (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto County HS) racked up nine kills, while senior Adrianne McNally (Howell, Mich./Pinckney HS) chipped in with six kills and nine digs. Freshman setter Camil Dominguez (Santo Domingo, D.R./Santa Teresita) registered 37 assists and nine digs.

Alyssa Lang and Sabrita Gulley each had 14 kills for Kennesaw State, while Lang picked up the double-double with 11 digs. Turea Jones had 15 digs, while Camille Pedraza had 13.

The Owls led 24-19 in the first set, but the Eagles battled back and used a 5-0 run to tie the game (24-24). KSU would go on to win the set, 26-24, after Gulley picked up back-to-back kills.

In the second set, the Blue and Green destroyed the Owls and took the game, 25-15. The Eagles jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead thanks to four kills from McNally. A kill from Lyles made the score 16-9, but consecutive points by KSU (16-11) forced FGCU to call a timeout. The Eagles responded coming out of the timeout and went on to outscore the Owls 9-4 to wrap up the set (25-15) and tie the match at 1-1.

While FGCU rallied to win the second set, the Owls controlled the remainder of the match. KSU hit .312 in the third set, committing only two errors in the frame. Gulley recorded KSU's final four points of the set on kills as the Owls won, 25-13. In the fourth set, Kennesaw State jumped out to an 11-4 lead and never led by fewer than four points the rest of the way en route to the 25-14 win.

The Eagles will be back in action Saturday night when they host Mercer in an A-Sun matchup. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Alico Arena. Live stats for the match will be available on www.FGCUAthletics.com and can be seen live on A-Sun.TV.
