FORT MYERS, Fla. – Jelena Simic led the Eagles with 10 kills and seven digs while hitting .360 and Emma Racila added eight kills as the Eagles fell to the No. 16 USC Trojans, 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-15), in the 2009 Holiday Inn LA City Center Trojan Invitational at the Galen Center.

USC Senior All-America outside hitter Jessica Gysin had five kills and a team-high 12 digs in the victory for USC (3-1) with junior outside hitter Kimmee Roleder adding nine kills and nine digs.

Simic's (Lazarevac, Serbia) 10 kills led the Eagles (1-3), while Chandra Lefever (Fort Morgan, Col.) picked up a team-high 23 assists.

FGCU shot out of the gate and led USC 7-5 in the first set. The Trojans tied it at 9-9 as both teams traded points to a 17-17 score. The Trojans then recorded a solo block on Jacqueline Cowden (Danville, Calif.) for the 18-17 lead as the Trojans used the 8-5 run to close out the set win.

In set two, USC jumped out to a 7-3 lead before the Eagles called a timeout. An Eagle service error gave USC a four-point lead at 10-6, but the Eagles came back and cut the lead to one with three straight points. The Trojans responded with four straight points as the team hit .355 in the set to take the 2-0 lead in the match.

USC used a 7-1 run to open the third set. FGCU fought hard, but the Trojans proved to be too much and went on to finish the sweep.

Florida Gulf Coast plays Northern Arizona tomorrow in a 4:30 p.m. match at the Galen Center before USC hosts No. 21 Pepperdine at 7 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast with a live video webcast on usctrojans.com.
