Eagles Fall to Bruins

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Reggie Chambers scored a game-high 19 points as Belmont defeated FGCU by a score of 92-74 Saturday afternoon in Alico Arena.

With the win the Bruins improve to 13-7 and 9-3 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Eagles fall to 9-15 and 5-8 in the conference.

Belmont hit 11-of-18 3-pointers in the first half and didn't look back as they headed into halftime with an 18 point cushion. The Eagles shot the ball well going 7-of-15 from behind the arc but were never able to come within striking distance of the Bruins.

The Eagles showed heart and battled the Bruins point for point in the second half as they scored 44 points after only managing 30 in the first. Freshman Reggie Chambers (Miramar, Fla.) led the way for the Eagles with 19 points on 6-of-14 shooting, while dishing out six assists and grabbing four rebounds. Junior Derrick O'Neil (Moreno Valley, Calif.) chipped in with 15 points, five assists, and five rebounds.

Andy Wicke led the way for Belmont with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 5-of-9 from behind the arc. Jon House and Matthew Dotson also chipped in 17 points, while Alex Renfroe added 15 on 6-of-8 shooting.

The Eagles will be back in action Monday night when they battle conference foe Lipscomb in Alico Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
