Kennesaw Slips by FGCU, 70-69

KENNESAW, Ga. - After leading for the majority of the game, the Eagles let one slip away as the Owls rallied in the last 10 minutes to defeat FGCU, 70-69, in the KSU Convocation Center on Sunday afternoon.

Kennesaw State (6-10, 2-5 A-Sun), who snapped their eight-game losing streak, trailed by seven points in the second half before a 10-2 run gave the Owls the lead. The rally was sparked by five points from Kurtis Woods and was capped off with a three-point field goal by Kelvin McConnell.

Over the final six minutes of the game, KSU held a four-point lead on five different occasions including a 70-66 lead with 11 seconds remaining. However, Florida Gulf Coast (8-12, 4-5 A-Sun) trimmed the Owls lead to one point when Reggie Chambers (Miramar, Fla.) drained a long distance three-pointer with 7.1 seconds left to play.

The Owls had to withstand desperation three-pointer from Chambers at the buzzer after McConnell missed the front-end of a one-and-one with just over two seconds left to play.

FGCI had three players in in double-figures with Chambers scoring 15 points, Delvin Franklin (Houston, Tex.) finishing with 14 points, and Kyle Marks (West Palm Beach, Fla.) tallying 13 points as the Eagles dropped their second game in a row.

The Eagles shot 51.1% from the field and 46.7% from long distance, but struggled at the charity stripe by shooting only 53.3% (16-of-30). FGCU committed 14 turnovers in the game while forcing only eight KSU turnovers. Chambers had a team-high three steals to lead the Owls.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday evening, Jan. 23, when they host Atlantic Sun Conference foe North Florida. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST at Alico Arena.

Notes:
*The Jan. 23 game is now a 7:00 pm start, instead of a 7:30 pm tip.*
