Eagles Return to Winning Ways with 77-64 Victory Over UCF

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Kelsey Jacobson scored all of her 17 points in the second half and three other Eagles reached double-figures in scoring as FGCU knocked off the visiting UCF Knights 77-64 on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick start, scoring the game's first five points.  The Knights' Emma Cannon responded, scoring six consecutive points herself, giving UCF a 6-5 lead three minutes into the contest.  The two teams exchanged baskets for a few minutes until an Adrianne McNally layup gave the home team a 16-14 lead with 10:45 to play in the half.  The Eagles would maintain that lead for the remainder of the half, extending it to as many as ten points with 3:01 to play, but UCF ended the half strong, cutting the lead to just a single point, 35-34, by halftime.  Chelsea Lyles scored 13 first-half points for the Eagles, shooting 5-9 from the field including 3-5 from behind the 3-point line.

The Knights came out of the locker room looking to build off of the momentum they carried into halftime, and they did just that, taking a 36-35 lead just 1:20 into the second half on a layup from Emma Cannon.  Two and a half minutes later, two free throws from Ashia Kelly made it a 41-37 game in favor of UCF, which would end up being their largest lead of the game.  With 12:36 to play and the Knights holding a 43-41 advantage, Adrianne McNally sank two free throws which sparked the Eagles on to a 10-0 run, capped off by two 3-pointer field goals from Kelsey Jacobson, her first points of the game.  About six minutes later, UCF was still hanging around, trailing 56-49.  Over the course of 1:50 Jacobson hit three treys and two free throws, opening up the lead to 67-51 with 4:49 to play.  Courtney Chihil's layup with 2:27 left gave FGCU a 20-point lead, essentially sealing the victory for the Eagles.

For the Knights (1-7), Emma Cannon recorded a double-double with 14 points (5-7 FG, 4-4 FT) and 13 rebounds (7 offensive).  Marshay White added 12 points and 4 rebounds, and Aisha Patrick tallied 7 points, 7 rebounds, a team-high 7 assists, as well as a game-high 3 steals.

For the Eagles (5-2), Kelsey Jacobson scored a game-high 17 points, all in the second half, on 5-9 shooting from 3-point range and 2-2 from the free throw line.  Adrianne McNally registered a game-high 6 assists, a team-high 8 rebounds, as well as scoring 11 points.  Courtney Chihil added 15 points and 6 rebounds.  Chelsea Lyles scored 13 points, all in the first half.

The Eagles will hit the court again on Saturday afternoon inside Alico Arena against the Campbell Camels as part of a double-header with the FGCU men's basketball team.  The women's game is scheduled to tip-off at 1:00 PM, with the men's game, also against Campbell, set for 3:15 PM.
