FORT MYERS, Fla. - Brittany Brown led four Eagles in double-figures with 17 points as the Eagles women's basketball team improved to 6-2 on the year (1-1 in conference) with a 73-46 win over Campbell.
The Lady Camels started strong, gaining a 6-2 lead 2:45 into the game. FGCU's Chelsea Lyles scored the next five points to give the Eagles their first lead of the afternoon with 16:03 to play in the first half. The teams exchanged leads five times over the next four minutes, with Campbell eventually opening up a small six-point margin after a three-pointer from Geami Britt with 10:47 left in the half. The Eagles bounced back quickly, scoring 11 consecutive points to take a 23-18 lead. FGCU maintained that lead into halftime, holding a 36-29 edge at the break.
The second half was dominated by the Eagles, as FGCU shut down the Lady Camels, holding Campbell to just 18.8% shooting from the field. With 15:35 left on the clock, a three-pointer from Chelsea Lyles pushed the lead out to 13 points, and the Eagles never looked back. FGCU outscored the Lady Camels 37-17 in the second half on their way to a 73-46 victory.
For the Lady Camels (4-2, 0-1), Geami Britt led the way with 12 points on 5-11 shooting. Ashley Williamson added 9 points and 5 rebounds, while Lauren Yesh chipped in with 8 points and 5 boards. Jessica Mack had a team-high 6 assists.
For the Eagles (6-2, 1-1), Brittany Brown had a game-high 17 points as well as 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Chelsea Lyles scored 13 points and also had 3 steals, while Adrianne McNally tallied 12 points and a game-high 8 boards. Shannon Murphy dished out a game-high 7 assists.
The Eagles will hit the road for their next game, traveling across the state to Daytona Beach, Florida, take on the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. The game is scheduled for 5:00 PM on Friday, December 19th. FGCU lands back at home on Tuesday, December 30th, in another basketball doubleheader at Alico Arena. The women's game against Cornell is set to tip-off at 5:00 PM, with the men's game against Army tentatively set for 7:00 PM.
