Santos' 2nd Triple Double Leads Volleyball to Eighth Straight Win

SPARTANBURG, S.C., - The FGCU volleyball team used Roberta Santos' second triple-double in the last three matches to win their eighth straight match after a 3-1 (26-24, 25-20, 20-25, 25-20) win over USC Upstate. The Eagles improve to 15-6 overall and 13-1 in the Atlantic Sun while the Spartans fall to 7-16 and 3-11.

The Eagles went on a 4-0 run right out of the gate, getting a pair of kills from Ana Kokanovic early. Upstate would cut the lead to just 7-5, but a 5-1 FGCU run put the Eagles up six. The Spartans would slowly climb back in to the set and tie FGCU at 23 all, but a kill from Ashley Yance then a block by Yance ended the set at 26-24.

In the second set, the Eagles would again take an early 10-5 lead, only to see Upstate take a brief 15-14 lead. A 3-0 run by FGCU swung the lead back to the Eagles and FGCU would use two more 3-0 runs to take a 25-20 win in the set.

The Spartans were able to build a 17-9 lead and increase it to 24-15. The Eagles held off five set points before Upstate would end the set with a kill by Kelsie Queen.

In the final set with the score even at nine apiece, FGCU went on a 7-1 run that featured five consecutive kills by four different players. Upstate was able to cut the lead to just 20-18, but Santos answered with a pair of blocks and a kill to put the Eagles up 24-19. Yance would end the match with a kill.

Kelsie Queen led all players with a match high 15 kills while Jovana Lubura added 12. The Eagles held their ninth opponent in the last 12 matches to under .200, holding Upstate to a .193 percentage.

Santos picked up her second triple double of the week with 12 kills, 41 assists and 12 digs. She added four blocks and three aces in the match. Ana Kokanovic led the Eagles with 14 kills while Audrey Campbell added 13. Ashley Yance put down nine kills and hit .615 in the match.
