Volleyball Sweeps Barry for 12th Straight Win

FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU volleyball team continued several streaks with a 3-0 sweep of Barry. With their 12th straight win, the Eagles improve to 12-1 while Barry falls to 6-10 on the year.

The Eagles gained an early 5-1 lead and a suffocating defense would not allow the Buccaneers to come back at all. Ana Kokanovic (Lazarevac, Serbia) and Audrey Campbell (Tampa, Fla.) led the team with four kills each, Kokanovic hitting .800 percent and Campbell .667 percent. The Buccaneers were able to shorten the deficit between themselves and the Eagles, but could not counter in the end. The Eagles won game one, 30-15. FGCU held the Bucs to a (-.028) percentage in game one, forcing 12 hitting errors.

Barry was able to take an early 11-8 lead, but a 7-0 Eagle run fueled by a couple of aces from Kokanovic put FGCU out front. The Eagles took a 27-21 and appeared to be ready to wrap up game two. Barry then went on a 6-0 run to even the score at 27 all after three straight FGCU hitting errors. FGCU was able to score the last three points to wrap up game two 30-27. The

Eagles jumped out to an early 8-1 lead and never looked back. FGCU quickly built a double digit lead and coasted to a 30-13 game three lead.

FGCU won their 21st straight home match with the win.  The Eagles have also now won 39 consecutive games at Alico Arena and 25 straight games overall during the 2007 season.

Camilla Pagan led the Bucs with 10 kills and nine digs while adding a pair of blocks.

Three Eagles recorded double figures in kills, with Roberta Santos and Ana Kokanovic each had 12 kills. Kokanovic added 14 and five aces. Brooke Youngquist was the other Eagle in double figures with 10 and she added a match high 17 digs for the Eagles. The FGCU Eagles will be on the road this weekend visiting Stetson for their third conference match. They travel to DeLand, Fla. for a 7:00 p.m. this Saturday.
