Men's Basketball Rallies to Knock Off Florida International

MIAMI – The FGCU men's basketball team picked up a 73-70 win at Florida International on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 3-5 overall while FIU falls to 2-3 with their third straight loss.

FGCU got on the board first with a three by Adam Liddell (Auburn, Ind.) and took a 6-2 lead on Casey Wohlleb's (Boca Raton, Fla.) three. Following a 5-0 FIU run, the two teams swapped the lead and with 12:36 to go in the first, FIU was up 11-10. The Panthers went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 21-10 lead. Rob Quaintance (Glendale, Az.) banked in a three then picked up a steal and found Wohlleb in transition to cut the lead to six. Another FIU turnover led to another bucket by Wohlleb in transition to cut the lead to 21-17 with 7:53 to go. FGCU was able to cut the lead to one, but the Panthers took a 31-28 lead into the break.

FGCU went on an 8-4 run out of the break to take a 38-35 lead. A 9-2 FIU run regained the lead for the Panthers at 44-40 with 13:58 to go. FGCU was able to regain the lead on a lay-up by Liddell with 10:51 to go. The game went back and forth over the rest of the way and featured seven ties over the last several minutes. FIU's Chris Fuller hit a three with 1:11 to go, putting the Panthers up 68-67. Liddell hit a reverse lay-up with 47 seconds to go to put the Eagles up for good. FGCU went 4-for-4 from the stripe over the final seconds to ice the game at 73-70.

Erick Nsangou led the Panthers with 17 points on the game while Kenneth White added 10. Russell Hicks added eight points and a team-high nine boards.

Landon Adler (Decatur, Ind.) led the Eagles with a career-high 23 points and added 12 boards for his third double-double of the season. Casey Wohlleb added 21 on the night as both went 8-for-14 from the floor. Adam Liddell scored 13 points including the go-ahead basket with 47 seconds remaining.

The Eagles will be in action again on Saturday when they travel back to Florida's East coast to face Florida Atlantic.
