Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

FGCU Falls to No. 19 Florida State

Fort Myers, Fla. - The FGCU women's basketball team dropped its first game as a Division 1 program as more than 2,000 fans watched the Eagles fall to the No. 19 Florida State Seminoles 93-53 in Alico Arena.

The Eagles (0-1) are now 5-1 in home-openers and 4-2 in season-openers.

FSU (1-0) has now won 14 consecutive season-openers with the win over the Eagles. The Seminoles are also 7-0 vs. A-Sun Conference teams under Head Coach Sue Semrau. Tonight's game was the first true road game to open a season for the Seminoles since 1998-1999 when they defeated St. Mary's 78-57 at the Paradise Jam.

Sophomore Jacinta Monroe (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) led the way for the Seminoles with 23 points while junior Tanae Davis-Cain (Dawson, Ga.) finished with 18. FSU was in control from the start after a 10-2 run to begin the game.

Seniors Delia De La Torre (Las Cruces, N.M.) and Chelsea Dermyer (Fort Collins, Col.) led the Eagles with 14 points and nine points, respectively. De La Torre was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line and pulled down four rebounds, while Dermyer snagged six rebounds and dished out four assists with no turnovers.

Freshman Kristine Herman (San Ramon, Calif.) looked strong in her collegiate debut with 7 points on 4-of-4 shooting from the charity stripe.

The Eagles will next take the court on Nov. 23 when they face off against Central Connecticut State in the first game of the FGCU Thanksgiving Classic.
