Men's Hoops Falls in South Padre Island Invitational

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – The FGCU men's basketball team lost its fourth consecutive game despite a season-high 23 from Casey Wohlleb (Boca Raton, Fla.).  FGCU fell 67-57 to Austin Peay on Friday afternoon in the South Padre Island Invitational.

Landon Adler got the Eagles on the board first with a short jumper to put FGCU up 2-0. Austin Peay then went on an 8-0 run, getting four buckets from four different players. The Eagles scored the next five to cut the lead to 8-7 with 16:05 to play in the half. Over the next seven minutes, FGCU would cut the lead to one on four occasions, but could never regain the lead. After a jumper by Wohlleb, the Govs went on an 11-0 run to take a 33-19 lead with 4:22 to play. FGCU went on a run of their own, outscoring the Govs 14-5 over the last four minutes including a three at the buzzer by Wohlleb that cut the APSU lead to 38-33.

Adam Liddell (Auburn, Ind.) scored on a quick lay-up and Wohlleb knotted the score with a three. APSU then outscored the Eagles 13-4 to take a 51-42 lead with 8:23 to play. FGCU was able to cut the lead to five on a jumper by Liddell with just over six minutes to play, but an 8-0 APSU run put the Govs up 61-48 with 3:18 to play. Austin Peay held on for a 67-57 win in the South Padre Island Invitational.

Drake Reed led Austin Peay with 21 points and eight boards, going 7-for-9 from the floor. Kyle Duncan added 13 while Wes Channels and Fernandez added 11 and 10 respectively.

Wohlleb's season-high 21 led the Eagles. Wohlleb was 8-of-15 from the floor and 4-for-8 from downtown. Landon Adler and Delvin Franklin added 12 apiece. Franklin's 12 were a career-high for the Houston, Texas native.

FGCU will face the loser of the Valparaiso vs. Maryland-Eastern Shore contest tomorrow at 12:00 pm in the South Padre Island Convention Center.
