Volleyball Improves to 4-2

WINTER PARK, Fla. '" The 16th ranked Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball team improved to 4-2 with a 3-0 (30-20, 30-26, 30-24) win over previously unbeaten Rollins (4-1). Rollins jumped to a 4-0 lead in game one, but a 16-5 FGCU run gave the Eagles a 16-9 lead. The Eagles forced seven hitting errors during the run, while Patricia Gomes da Silva added three kills over that span. The Eagles would continue to build on their lead and eventually take game one 30-20. Game two was a back and forth affair that featured nine ties, the last coming at 12 apiece. From that point, the Eagles Brooke Youngquist recorded three kills to help lift FGCU to a 30-26 win in game two. In game three, Ericka Fonseca recorded five kills in the decisive game while the Eagles forced 13 hitting errors and limited the Tars to a (-.067) hitting percentage. The Eagles recorded 13 kills in the game and ended up taking game three 30-24. Lorena Orlandini led the Tars with 11 kills while Piper Young added 10 for the Tars. Kim Cline led all players with 19 digs in the match. Brooke Youngquist led the Eagles with 12 kills, while Ericka Fonseca added 11 for FGCU while hitting .360 in the match. Chandra Ginest recorded 34 assists and added a team-high 15 digs. The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday night when they host St. Leo at 7:00 pm in Alico Arena.
