#12 Eagles Take Down Palm Beach Atlantic 82-45

FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Gulf Coast University women'™s basketball team claimed their 10th straight victory tonight over Palm Beach Atlantic University 82-45. The fifth regionally ranked and 12th nationally ranked Eagles were led by several lead players with three in double digits. Early in the first quarter the Eagles jumped to a 16-8 lead two minutes in. At the half the Eagles were up 45-23 with senior Candy Myers (Fort Myers, FL) as high scorer with 17 points collected. Myers ended the game with 26 points, including seven three'™s, close to her season high eight. Myers also led the team in steals with four and in assists with three. Junior Jen Conely (Warren, MN) posted 17 points, second on the team. Conely also collected five threes, four rebounds, and two steals. Junior Alex Nelson (Edinburgh, Scotland) posted 11 points, four rebounds and a steal, going four for four at the free-throw line. As a team the Eagles were close to breaking their 18 three'™s made school record, hitting 15 tonight collectively. They shot 42 percent from field goal range, 37 percent from the arch and 62 percent as a team at the free-throw line. The Eagles kept their turnovers to a minimum only allowing 10 and caused 32 for the Sailfish. They also collected 16 steals as a team to Palm Beach Atlantic'™s four. Leading scorer for the Sailfish was freshman LeighAnn Powers (Haysville, NC) with 13 points, four rebounds and two steals. (22-1) FGCU looks to their 23th game of the season versus Florida Memorial University whom they defeated earlier this year 62-36. Game time is 5:30 pm at home in Alico Arena.
