No. 12 Eagles Women's Basketball Defeat Sailfish 70-36

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. '" Florida Gulf Coast University won their 12th consecutive game Friday night versus Palm Beach Atlantic University. The FGCU women defeated Palm Beach 70-36. The No. 12 Eagles are now 24-1 overall and ranked 5th in the region. The Eagles scored 35 points in each half, keeping the Sailfish to only 14 points in the first half and 22 in the second. The FGCU women came out strong and kept PBA at bay with three Eagles in double digits and causing 32 turnovers for the Sailfish. The Eagles were led by junior forward Jen Conely (Warren, MN) who tallied 17 points including five three's. Conely has a total 278 points so far this season which currently stands at third on the team. She is shooting 50 percent from the field and 48 percent in three-point range. Junior forward Katie Schrader (Fort Collins, CO) posted 15 points. As the current team leader in points this season with 355, Schrader is averaging 14.8 points per game. She also leads the team in rebounds with 6.5 per game and 157 total. Senior guard Ebonie Halliburton (East St. Louis, IL) collected 12 points for the Eagles with two assists, two rebounds and five steals. Halliburton, who was named to the 2006 CoSIDA Academic All-District III third team, is currently fourth on her team in points with 243 total. The Eagles shot 41 percent from the field, hitting 23-of-56 from the floor, including eight 3-pointers. They held a 33-26 rebounding advantage. FGCU handed out 12 assists and recorded 17 steals. Palm Beach Atlantic was led by junior guard Julie Feldhake (Denver, CO) with 13 points and five rebounds. The fifth regionally ranked Eagles host the Division II Independent Tournament this weekend February 24th-26th. The Eagles will start competition versus the District of Columbia at 5:15 pm on Friday February 24th.
