FGCU Men Rally to Upset Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. '" Florida Gulf Coast University won its fourth straight game as it rallied past Nova Southeastern University 67-64 Monday night in Division II South Region men's basketball action at BCC's George Mayer Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 14-11 while the loss snapped the Sharks (15-8) four-game winning streak.

Four FGCU players scored in double figures as the Eagles rallied from a 17-point deficit late in the first half to split the season series between the two teams. Sophomore forward Casey Wohlleb (Boca Raton, Fla.) came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points. Junior guard Beau Bauer (Walton, Ind.) had 12 points while sophomore guard Brendan Rooney (Fort Myers, Fla.) had 11 points. Sophomore forward Adam Liddell (Auburn, Ind.) had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Eagles. It was the second straight game that at least four Eagles scored in double figures.

The Sharks led the entire half, building their largest lead at 17 points, 37-20, with 3:59 remaining in the opening half. FGCU scored the final five points of the half before NSU eventually took a 37-25 lead at the break.

The Eagles came out and scored the first seven points of the second half to cut the lead to 37-32 just two minutes into the final half. But the Sharks pushed the lead back to double digits at 43-32. FGCU then went on a 17-2 run to take its first lead of the game with 11:07 left to play.

NSU guard Rhys Martin, who scored a game-high 20 points on 14-of-14 from the foul line, hit a pair of free throws to give the Sharks a one-point lead, 60-59, with 2:42 remaining, but Bauer hit a three-pointer and short jumper as the Eagles outscored the Sharks 8-4 in the closing minutes.

FGCU returns to action when it faces the University of District of Columbia Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in the first-round of the National Independent Tournament at Alico Arena.
