Eagles Coast to 3-0 Win Over Saint Xavier

FORT MYERS, Fla. '" The 10th ranked Florida Gulf Coast University extended the nations fourth longest winning streak to 22 consecutive matches. FGCU improved to 24-2 with a 3-0 (30-10, 30-11, 30-18) sweep over Saint Xavier (17-15). FCU jumped out to an 8-1 lead early in game one and never looked back. The Eagles allowed Saint Xavier to score consecutive points only once in the first game. FGCU went on five separate runs of at least four points to coast to a 30-10 win in game one. FGCU committed no hitting errors while recording 12 kills in game one. FGC held the Panthers to a (-.129) hitting percentage in the first game. The Eagles again jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the second game. A 10-1 run midway through the second game propelled FGCU to a 30-11 win in game two. FGCU hit an amazing .692 in the second game, recording 20 kills. Game three saw the teams exchange points early in the third game. FGCU went on a 7-0 run to take control of the game with the score knotted at six apiece. From there, the Eagles would ease to a 30-18 win in the third game. Jessica Synowiecki and Tara Breshock recorded eight kills apiece while Traci Looby recorded 26 assists and a team high seven digs. FGCU limited the Panthers to a .046 hitting percentage and just 28 kills in the match. FGCU hit a school-record .539 in the match as Brooke Youngquist led the Eagles with 14 kills and a .619 hitting percentage in the match. Six other Eagles hit over .400 in the match. Ericka Fonseca slammed home 11 kills and added four blocks in the match. Whitney Hendry led the defensive effort with 20 digs. FGCU returns to action again on Tuesday when they travel to Boca Raton, Fla., to face Lynn at 7:00 pm.
