Men's Hoop Drops First of Two Games in Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Audrius Peciukas poured in a game-high 29 points to lead Hawaii-Pacific to a 92-77 win over Florida Gulf Coast University in a Division II non-region men's basketball game.

Peciukas hit 13-of-17 shots from the field and 3-of-5 from the foul line to lead five Sea Warriors in double figures. Finis Harwell and Adam Reinking had 16 points each as Hawaii-Pacific shot 57.4% from the field to snap a three-game losing streak. The Sea Warriors improve to 4-13.

Senior Leon Woodstock had 20 points and nine rebounds for FGCU (10-8), which had a two-game win streak snapped. Senior Gabe Pean added a season-high 18 points while Junior Beau Bauer scored 11 points. Senior Marcus Watts had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles.

After FGCU jumped out to a quick 9-3 lead, the Sea Warriors scored the next 16 points to take a 25-9 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Sea Warriors recorded 10 steals on 13 FGCU turnovers in the first half. FGCU trailed by 18 points (38-20) before closing the half on a 12-2 run - keyed by six points from Pean - to trail 40-32 at the break.

An Adam Liddell jumper pulled the Eagles within six, 49-43, at the 15:03 mark. That would be the closest FGCU would get the rest of the way as Hawaii-Pacific answered each Eagles run. On four occasions, the Eagles cut the deficit to single digits. But Peciukas scored 23 second half points and the Sea Warriors hit 14-of-22 from the foul line, including eight in the final two minutes of the game for the win.

Hawaii-Pacific forced 19 FGCU turnovers and recorded 13 steals. FGCU shot 41.8% from the floor, but made just 4-of-19 (21.1%) shots from beyond the 3-point arc. The Eagles had a 37-34 advantage in rebounds.

FGCU concludes its two-game swing to Hawaii with a game at BYU-Hawaii, the No. 6 ranked team in the West Region of Division II, on Monday night.
