WASHINGTON, D.C. - Junior forward Katie Schrader scored a game-high 23 points as No. 14 Florida Gulf Coast University held off the University of District of Columbia, 71-66, in Division II non-region women's basketball. Schrader had 14 of her points in the second half as the Eagles held off a late UDC rally to improve to 18-1 overall. UDC falls to 6-15. FGCU led 36-34 after a first half that featured eight ties and four lead changes. Schrader had nine first-half points for FGCU, while Deidra Bumbrey, Jennifer Jones and Sylvia Kemp combined to score 24 of UDC's points. FGCU scored the first 13 points of the second half to build a 49-34 lead with 16:45 remaining. But UDC took advantage of 13 second half turnovers, holding the Eagles to just six points over a 9:06 stretch to pull within two, 66-64, with 58 seconds left. But Schrader responded with a lay-up and FGCU hit three free throws to seal the win. FGCU connected on 44.6% shooting from the field, while UDC hit 42.4% from the floor. The Eagles held a 48-31 advantage on the board, including 20 offensive rebounds, and overcame 17 turnovers with two blocks and five steals. Senior guard Ebonie Halliburton finished with 14 points and nine rebounds for the winners. Schrader pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Both Candy Myers and Princess Stewart added nine points. Four players scored in double figures for UDC, led by Jones with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Bumbrey and Talisha McCullough had 13 points each.
