FGCU Dumps Palm Beach Atlantic 74-55

FORT MYERS, Fla. '" Senior forwards Marcus Watts and Leon Woodstock combined for 30 points as Florida Gulf Coast University dumped Palm Beach Atlantic 74-55 in NCAA Division II South Region men's basketball action Thursday night.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Eagles (9-7). The Sailfish drop to 4-15.

Watts made 5-of-10 field goals and 6-of-8 from the foul line and grabbed seven rebounds, while Woodstock connected on 5-of-8 from the field, including both three-point field goal attempts and both free throw shots. Junior guard Beau Bauer added 10 points while sophomore forward Casey Wohlleb came off the bench to score seven points and haul down five rebounds.

Freshman Manny Lopez scored a team-high 14 points for PBA while Sean Tucker added nine points.

FGCU took its first double-digit lead (18-6) midway through the first half. After the Sailfish scored four straight points, the Eagles went on a 17-5 run to take a 22-point lead. FGCU led 43-21 at the break. The Eagles opened the second half with a 13-7 spurt and never looked back, playing all 15 players in uniform for at least five minutes. 11 players reached the scoring column for FGCU.

FGCU shot 40.7 percent from the field, including 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from beyond the arc, while holding PBA to 34 percent from the floor. The hosts had a 45-31 rebounding advantage.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, January 18 when they host Barry University at 7:30 p.m.
