FORT MYERS, Fla. '" Despite playing their sixth game in nine days, the Florida Gulf Coast University women'™s basketball team showed no signs of slowing down Sunday afternoon. FGCU used stifling defensive pressure to overcome a sluggish shooting performance to run away from the University of North Alabama 75-33 in NCAA Division II South Region women'™s basketball action at Alico Arena. FGCU, which led by two points seven minutes into the game, forced 16 first-half turnovers to build a 39-24 lead at the break. The Eagles turned up the pressure in the second half, holding the Lions to just four field goals and nine total points in the second half. FGCU produced 34 turnovers in the game and had 19 steals. The Eagles scored 32 points off turnovers in the game. Junior forward Katie Schrader scored a game-high 26 points on 10-of-11 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free throw line for the Eagles (6-0). Senior guard Ebonie Halliburton added 11 points for FGCU. The Eagles shot 40.8% from the floor, but only hit 3-of-24 three-pointers. FGCU senior guard Candy Myers scored six points to move into second on the school'™s all-time scoring list with 677 career points. Junior Shonna Soeby grabbed a career-high six rebounds. North Alabama was led by senior guard Lauren Qualls 10 points. FGCU begins a three-game road trip against Florida Southern College in Lakeland on Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m.
