Clinton S.C. '" The Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball team started the 2nd Annual Lady Blue Hose Tournament hosted by Presbyterian College with a win over North Carolina Central Friday afternoon. FGCU ended NCCU's 14-match winning streak with a three-game shutout (30-22, 30-20 and 30-15).
Sophomore
Brooke Youngquist (Fort Myers, FL) led the Eagles on offense with 12 kills, nine digs and two blocks. Sophomore
Heather Van Olst (Loxahatchee, FL) was second on the team in kills with seven and four digs. Junior
Melissa Duffield (Cedar Rapids, IA) led the Eagles in blocks with three to go with six kills.
Freshman setter
Ciara Sandoval (Fort Myers, FL) and junior setter
Laura Manovill (Dunedin, FL) led the offense. Sandoval collected 23 assists and Manovill collected 11 while working together in a 6-2 offense.
Leading digger was sophomore libero
Whitney Hendry (Fort Myers, FL) with 13. Hendry is currently third in the nation in the NCAA rankings in digs per game with 6.66.
The Eagles (18-2, ranked second in the NCAA Division II South Region, face regional opponents Catawaba College and Presbyterian College on Saturday afternoon to conclude the tournament.
