FGCU Women Win in Record-Setting Fashion 104-56

FORT MYERS, FL '" The Florida Gulf Coast University women'™s basketball team blew past Florida Memorial 104-56 in record-setting fashion Saturday night at Alico Arena. Junior guard Candy Myers (New Batavia, OH) led six Eagles in double figures as she tied a school record with seven three-pointers on her way to a game-high 21 points. Myers extended her consecutive games streak of three-pointers to 26, finishing 7-of-10 from beyond the arc for the Eagles. Myers is among the top-10 nationally in three-point field goal percentage and made three-pointers per game. FGCU ran out to a 62-23 halftime lead, beating the Lions zone by hitting 13-of-24 (54.2%) from beyond the three-point arc. FGCU finished with a school-record 18-of-36 from three-point land, topping the 15 three-pointers they hit at Florida Memorial on January 14. The Eagles, who topped 90 points this season for the fourth time, set a new school mark for points in a game, besting the 103 points scored against Southeastern College during the 2002-03 season. FGCU freshman forward Jessica Hathaway (Fort Wayne, IN) contributed a career-high 17 points and five rebounds. Junior forward Jennifer Santana (Pembroke Pines, FL), senior forward Andrea Clarke (Guelph, Ontario) and freshman forward Amber Bishko (Orlando, FL) added 11 points each. Junior guard Ebonie Halliburton (East St. Louis, IL) finished with 10 points. The Lions (1-12) were led by Rebecca Gasion with 15 points. FGCU (14-5, 7-5 South Region) begins a three-game road, all against Division II South Region opponents, with a 7:00 est. tip-off at North Alabama. The Eagles will also tangle will Christian Brothers University and Arkansas-Monticello, two top-10 south region teams, on the trip.
