Eagle women defeat Palm Beach Atlantic 72-48

FORT MYERS, Fla. The FGCU women defeated Palm Beach Atlantic tonight 72-48 to improve their record to 19-1 on the season. Despite playing without leading scorer Trish Fleming, who had to return home to attend her grandfather's funeral, the eagles still managed to dominate the Sailfish to remain undefeated at Alico Arena. Freshman point guard Megan Jones stepped up in Fleming's place tonight as she scored a season high 19 points and dished out 6 assists. Jones drained 4 three pointers, and seemed to take control of the offense often as the Sailfish played a zone most of the game. Noreen McCallum and Robyn Swain also had impressive games as each scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. This marks the third game in a row Swain has earned a double double. The Sailfish were led by Maggie Hedley who scored 10 points. Alexis Balkman scored 8 points and pulled down 7 rebounds in the losing effort. FGCU will return to action this Saturday, as they will travel to Southeastern College with the men. The game will begin at 2:00 p.m. The Eagles look to earn their 20th win of the season.
