SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- On a night when its defense wasn't the best, the Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball team used its offense to earn another victory.
Â
FGCU rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit for a 93-80 victory over Indiana University - South Bend Tuesday night to remain perfect on the season, improving to 8-0.
Â
Senior forward Trish Fleming sparked the second-half comeback, scoring a season-high 35 points, including 11-for-11 from the free throw line.
Â
"Trish was a tough matchup for them," said FGCU head coach Karl Smesko. "We were behind and we went to Trish a lot in the second half and she took the ball to the basket and got to the foul line and finished."
Â
Rebecca Stewart added 14 points and Megan Jones tossed in 12 for the Eagles. Robyn Swain, making her second start of the season at center, had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Â
FGCU scored 58 points in the second half to dig itself out of the hole.
Â
"We were scoring a lot of points," Smesko said. "We were being smart with the basketball in the second half and that's good because it was not our best defensive game. We looked tired out there. South Bend was really aggressive, and we were fouling too much."
Â
Five IUSB players scored in double figures, led by Emily Ladd's 17.
Â
FGCU plays at Tri-State University in Angora, Ind. on Thursday at 1 p.m.
