The FGCU Soccer Complex opened on Aug. 17, 2008 and is home to the FGCU’s men’s and women’s soccer programs, which have combined to win 16 ASUN regular season titles and 10 ASUN tournament championships. The complex has hosted nine combined ASUN tournaments plus the spring 2021 ASUN men’s and women’s quarterfinal matches.
In 2021, thanks to a generous gift from the Larry and Susanne Pickering, the field was completely replaced with new turf, updated irrigation, and drainage. It will carry the name Pickering Field in their honor.
On Nov. 15, 2014, the complex became the first FGCU venue to host an NCAA Division I Tournament match, which featured a first round matchup between the Eagles and Auburn.
Along with the team’s success, the stadium has seen major growth and improvement over the years. In 2011, the stadium underwent major changes as 824 permanent chair back seats were added to the west side of the complex and the original grandstands bleachers were moved to the south side of the complex to provide seating for FGCU’s student section, The Dirty Birds.
Further improvements came prior to the 2012 campaign, as the stadium added sponsorship field signs, permanent World Cup Pro Premiere Game Goals, Hi-Pod video system and a state-of-the-art permanent sound system.
The FGCU Soccer Complex also provides an international-quality playing surface of lush Celebration Bermuda grass, which rivals those of professional soccer. FGCU’s playing surface has made the facility an attractive site for professional organizations to play friendly exhibitions as it has hosted DC United, as well as the Chicago Fire, Tampa Bay Rowdies, Fort Lauderdale Strikers and the U-17 Mexican National Team.
Future improvements to the stadium include renovation of the scoreboard to a state-of-the-art Hi Definition Video Board and construction of a soccer specific building to house men’s and women’s soccer locker rooms, coaches offices, equipment room, training room and meeting rooms.
