Tsamas was named as assistant coach for the FGCU men’s tennis team in November 2014, the first assistant in the program’s history.
"Dean is an incredibly disciplined young man," said head coach C.J. Weber. "As he continues his obligations with the National Guard, we are fortunate to have Dean as our assistant coach. He is a winner to the core and can teach our players what it takes to maximize their games on the court."
FGCU's success continued in 2016 under Weber and Tsamas. The Eagles again went undefeated in ASUN play to defend their regular-season crown. FGCU took down UNF on the road while climbing as high as No. 74 in the ITA Rankings.
In his first season, Tsamas helped guide the Eagles to an undefeated A-Sun record while taking down ranked opponents in Miami and UC-Irvine along the way. FGCU made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history while earning both the A-Sun regular season title and tournament title.
A four-year letterwinner and team captain for the Eagles, Tsamas saw monumental success during his collegiate tennis career as he accumulated 62 singles wins to become the most victorious player in FGCU’s D-I history after competing in each of the 80 matches the Eagles played during his four years.
His role as one of the program’s leading players began early in his career as he led the Green and Blue with a dual-match record of 10-7 during his sophomore campaign in the spring of 2012. As a junior, the Lexington, Ky. native posted a dual-match record of 15-7, the highest number of singles wins in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Additionally, his 6-1 mark against conference opponents allowed him to boast the best winning percentage among all second-position players in the league. During his final season last spring, Tsamas and doubles partner Jordi Vives were a dominant force in the number-one position, leading the team with a record of 15-4 to rank ninth in the ITA’s Southeastern region.
Tsamas graduated from FGCU in the spring of 2014 with a degree in Business Management. In addition to his coaching responsibilities Tsamas is also an active member of the United States Army National Guard.
