Dr. Thomas (Tom) J. Roberts has served as FGCU’s faculty athletics representative (FAR) since his appointment in July 2016.

He is currently a professor of educational leadership with a focus on higher education in FGCU's College of Education, Department of Leadership, Counseling and Human Development. Tom is an accomplished scholar and leader. He has served FGCU since June 1998 when he led the establishment of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. During his tenure at FGCU, he has served in several leadership positions.

As FAR, he serves as a liaison between the athletics department and the FGCU faculty and administration. He assists the athletic department personnel and student-athletes in compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and FGCU rules, regulations, and policies. Dr. Roberts is chair of FGCU’s Intercollegiate Athletics Committee (IAC) and participates in Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) and NCAA business meetings.

Dr. Roberts has strong and enthusiastic personal interest in university athletics and has served in various capacities in support of athletics since the inception of such programs at FGCU. He previously served on the IAC, was a founding member of the Eagles Club Advisory Board, assisted with the establishment of the E.A.G.L.E Leadership Institute, and is often seen cheering on the Green and Blue at various athletic events.
