Stephen Silvoy

Stephen Silvoy is in his 1st year at FGCU as a Learning Specialist in the Hartley Academic Resource Center. As a Learning Specialist, he will work with student-athletes to develop sustainable academic success habits and build confidence with core academic skills, including, but not limited to, academic reading, writing, researching, studying, and executive functioning.

Prior to FGCU, he worked as a Learning Specialist in the Office of Academic Excellence at UCLA. While at UCLA, he supported a caseload of student-athletes across multiple teams and was the team-assigned Learning Specialist for Men's Football, Men's and Women's Tennis, Women's Volleyball, Rowing, and Men's and Women's Track and Field. He was actively involved in the Academic Mentor Program, Bruin Bridge, and training for Peer Learning Facilitators. 

Before UCLA, Silvoy worked in the Learning Resource Center at IMG Academy as a LRC Teacher and Learning Specialist.  He has more than 20 years of experience as a reading and writing specialist, working with students and student-athletes with academic challenges, learning differences, and diagnosed learning disabilities.

 
Silvoy has also taught college English courses since 2002 at UNC-Charlotte, Queens University, the University of Maryland (Global Campus), Grand Canyon University, and community colleges in both North and South Carolina. 

Silvoy earned his BA in English from East Carolina University in 1999 and his MA in English from UNC-Charlotte in 2002.
