Randy Popple is in his 16th year with FGCU as the strength and conditioning coordinator. Popple was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director Strength and Conditioning in July 2022. He oversees all aspects of strength and conditioning for every athletic team at FGCU and his duties include designing and implementing strength, conditioning and speed programs for men’s and women’s: cross country, golf, soccer and tennis teams as well as the women’s diving team.

Popple, a 1987 graduate of the University of Florida, received his bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science while working as a student athletic trainer.

In 1986, Popple served as the head student athletic trainer working with the Gator football team and became the assistant strength and conditioning coordinator Immediately following his graduation in 1987 from the University of Florida.

In 11 years as an assistant, Popple worked with: football, baseball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's golf, women’s basketball, women's soccer and gymnastics programs. During his tenure, his teams won numerous SEC championships, national titles in football and women's soccer, and the baseball team made three appearances in the College World Series.

In 1998, Popple left Florida to become the head strength and conditioning coordinator for the Minnesota Twins, major league baseball club, a position he held through the 2006 season. During his time, the team won four division titles and appeared in the 2002 ALCS.

With 35 years, in collegiate and professional sports, Popple has been the architect of two strength programs; the Minnesota Twins and Florida Gulf Coast University.

Popple is an active member of the National Strength Conditioning Association (NSCA) and holds his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the NSCA as well.
Randy and his wife Kathy have four children, Hannah, Carter, Keegan and Christopher.
