Dr. Ashley Kuhn is in her fourth year at FGCU in 2020-21. She was promoted to assistant director of the Hartley Academic Resource Center in August 2018 and oversees academics for baseball, softball, men’s soccer and women’s soccer. She also supervises the department's tutors and mentors.
Prior to her time at FGCU, Dr. Kuhn worked for the University of Florida as the Coordinator of Academic Training Programs/Learning Specialist, working with student-athletes, coaches, and staff. While there, Dr. Kuhn coordinated the development and implementation of support programs for student-athletes with learning disabilities. She worked directly alongside physicians and health trainers to follow ADHD and concussion protocols. She was also responsible for creating individual learning plans based on student-athletes' specific needs.
Before that, Dr. Kuhn was an assistant learning specialist and advising intern at Florida, gaining experience with student-athletes as she developed plans for skill enhancement and tracking progress towards degree.
She holds a bachelor of science in psychology, a bachelor of arts in criminology, a masters in criminology and law (2012), and a Ph.D. in sociology and criminology and law (2017) - all at the University of Florida. She also has a graduate certificate in post-secondary learning support from UF. Her dissertation project was titled "Faculty Perceptions of Student-Athlete Deviance: A Big Ten and SEC Comparison."
Dr. Kuhn is an active member of both the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) and Women Leaders in College Sports. She currently serves on the N4A Board of Directors as the Division Director of Educational Services & Initiatives. She previously served as the chair of the N4A Research Committee from 2018-2019 and received the Academic Research Award in 2017 for her doctoral dissertation project. She is a 2018 graduate of N4A’s Professional Development Institute for Leaders/Managers and a 2019 graduate of the Women Leaders in College Sports Institute of Administrative Advancement- East.
Dr. Kuhn lives in Estero with her husband, Alton, and three children, Kennedy, Payton, and Maxwell.
