Men's Soccer Comes Up Short at North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University's men's soccer team battled North Florida for 90 minutes Saturday night, but an 83rd minute goal by the Ospreys was the difference, as UNF rallied for a 2-1 victory in an Atlantic Sun Conference match at Hodges Stadium.

FGCU (4-5-2, 0-2) is now 0-3-1 in its last four matches, while North Florida (8-3, 2-0) has won seven straight games since starting the 2025 campaign 1-3.

Neither team was able to generate much offensively in the first half hour of the match and FGCU didn't register its first shot of the match until the 25:23 mark, when Caio Oliveira put a shot on goal that was stopped by North Florida keeper Luciano Natoli. Just over nine minutes later, the Eagles were able to find the back of the net, as Pedro Arcoverde scored his third goal of the season off an assist from Oliveira at 34:30 to give FGCU a 1-0 lead.

However, North Florida got a goal at 42:19 to tie the match, 1-1, going into halftime. Jaxon Reinhardt scored for the Ospreys – his fifth goal of the year – off assists from Anton Khelil and Kaiss Mansouri to give North Florida a boost just before the break.

North Florida outshot FGCU, 5-4, in the first half, but the Eagles had four shots on goal to the Ospreys' one. FGCU also earned five corner kicks to North Florida's one and 11 fouls were called in the opening 45 minutes, with North Florida being whistled for nine compared to two for FGCU.

The match stayed 1-1 until less than 10 minutes remaining, when North Florida scored the match-winning goal at 82:22. Luc Granitur netted his fourth goal of the season for the Ospreys to put North Florida ahead, 2-1, and the Ospreys held on from there.

Oliveira finished with four shots, including two shots on goal, and Arcoverde added two shots (both on goal) for the Eagles. Nicolas Leite got the start in goal for FGCU, making three saves in 83 minutes of work before being replaced by Oliver Weng, who had one save in the final seven minutes of the match.

For the match, North Florida outshot FGCU, 13-8, including 6-5 in shots on goal. The Eagles had six corner kicks to four for the Ospreys and 23 fouls (14 on North Florida, nine on FGCU) were called in the match. Five yellow cards (three on North Florida, two on FGCU) were handed out as well.

FGCU steps out of conference play next, as the Eagles will travel to Florida Atlantic (7-2) for a Wednesday night matchup. Kickoff at the FAU Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET. If you can't make it to Boca Raton to support the Eagles in person, you can still catch all the action, as the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
