FORT MYERS, Fla. - Several changes to the Florida Gulf Coast University baseball schedule have been made, impacting games against Florida International this week and in the future.
Last Tuesday, the Eagles started play against FIU in a game at Swanson Stadium. As the teams prepared to enter the third inning, a light fixture did not come on due to an electrical failure. After a delay of over an hour, the game was suspended with the Eagles leading 6-3. The electrical failure persisted into the weekend, which caused FGCU's Friday game against Central Arkansas to be moved to 3 p.m.
Tuesday's game against FIU, scheduled to be played at Swanson Stadium, has been postponed. That game is now slated to take place May 1 at 6:30 p.m. on the FGCU campus. Wednesday, the teams will meet in Miami to continue the suspended game, with the resumption slated for 3 p.m. Once that game is finished, the two teams will play the regularly scheduled game, with that game shortened to a scheduled seven innings.
The completion of the Apr. 2 game will be reflected in all stats and streaks as of that date, even though other games have been played by both teams. The Eagles have currently won four games in a row thanks to a weekend sweep of UCA coupled with a win Mar. 30 at Queens. If the Eagles win the resumed game at FIU, the win streak will be at five games. A loss would mean the Eagles would still be on a winning streak according to the NCAA, but it would only be the three games against UCA.
Wednesday's games are scheduled to stream via ESPN+.
