Flemming appointed FGCU Assistant AD for Communications

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Cedrique Flemming has been hired as the new Assistant Athletics Director for Communications at Florida Gulf Coast University, FGCU Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh announced Monday.
 
Flemming has been tabbed to oversee the communications department, and he will also serve as the primary media contact for the Eagles men's basketball program.
 
"We are excited to have Cedrique joining our executive staff," Kavanagh said. "He brings considerable experience and an engaging personality to The Nest, and we look forward to his continuing the tremendous results produced from our athletics communications area."
 
Flemming comes to Fort Myers after a two-year stint (2016-18) as an Assistant Sports Information Director at Texas State University (San Marcos, Texas). He served as the contact for the Bobcat volleyball, men's basketball, baseball, and track & field teams.
 
He helped promote a volleyball program that won the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships and advanced to the NCAA Championship for the first time in five years. He was also the host SID for the first two rounds of the 2017 National Invitational Volleyball Championship when Texas State won its first postseason match in school history. During Flemming's time with the program, TXST had its first AVCA National Player of the Week and shattered school records for most postseason specialty award winners (6), all-conference selections (14) and player of the week laurels (44) in a three-year span.

Before he was at Texas State, Flemming spent four years as the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations at Northeastern State University (Tahlequah, Okla.). He was the administrative supervisor for the women's tennis program and also handled the media relations for NSU's 10 sports.
 
The Pratt, Kan., native was the direct media relations contact for an athletics department that claimed six conference championships and 22 runner-up finishes during his four years (2012-16). He also was responsible for nominating, voting and publicizing all student-athlete awards. Overall, there were 1,073 awards won by NSU student-athletes, coaches and teams during his tenure. The number is by far the most accolades won at Northeastern State during any four-year stretch in school history.
 
Flemming earned national recognition for his publications designs during the 2015-16 season, when the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) bestowed upon him the Nation's Best Poster award in the College Division (NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, all NAIA and all NJCAA). The NSU Athletics schedule posters dominated the entire poster category, winning five of the top six positions, including the first-place women's and men's soccer poster. This marked the first national award in school history.

The RiverHawks advanced to postseason play 34 times (out of 36 opportunities) and competed at 14 NCAA Championship events during Flemming's tenure. He also spearheaded the launch of three new websites during his first two years in Tahlequah, including NSU's official athletics site (goriverhawksgo.com), NSU's official gear site (goriverhawksgear.com) and NSU's official ticketing site (goriverhawkstickets.com).
 
Flemming was selected by former MIAA Commissioner Robert Boerigter as the conference recipient of the 2015 MOAA/NCAA Division II Grant, which allowed him to attend the 2015 NACDA/CoSIDA Convention in Orlando. He served as the Central Region Coordinator for the Daktronics women's soccer all-region team announcement. He also volunteered as one of three voters from the region on the D2SIDA Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll.
 
Flemming spent two years (2010-12) as the Media Relations Assistant at the University of Tulsa (Tulsa, Okla.). He served as the secondary contact for football and women's basketball, and he was the direct media contact for men's and women's track and field, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's cross country.

The newest Eagle was at Charleston Southern University (Charleston, S.C.) for one year (2009-10) promoting CSU baseball, women's basketball, women's soccer and women's tennis. He was also a graduate assistant athletic media relations director for two years (2007-09) at Bemidji State University (Bemidji, Minn.) and was the primary contact for BSU women's hockey, women's soccer and softball.
 
Flemming has also worked for Sports Illustrated, Scout.com and the Associated Press. He earned a Master of Science degree in sport studies from Bemidji State in 2009. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Kansas State University in 2007.
