Earlier this month, FGCU Athletics held its grand-opening ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Alico Arena Addition & Expansion Project, the $8-million Phase I of the department's $12-million capital. Attached are video highlights and a photo gallery from that event.
The upgrades to Alico Arena originally began in 2015 with the addition of a four-sided LED video board and courtside tables. Phase I includes the addition of the Hartley Academic Resource Center, expanded Schreiner Sports Medicine Facility, the creation of new men's and women's basketball offices and new state-of-the-art, shared film room.
The starting date for Phase II is likely to be in the 2018-19 academic calendar and includes the renovation and update to The Sublett Strength & Conditioning Center, which will serve as a dedicated workout space for all 15 programs and 250+ student-athletes.
The $4-million balance of the campaign will be utilized in the areas of scholarships, recruiting budgets, additional facility enhancements and strategic areas of focus. FGCU currently only has the NCAA maximum allowable scholarships in eight of its 15 programs.
