The Eagles won its final warm up before the start of Atlantic Sun play, defeating Georgia Southern 3-2 Friday, Sept. 24. FGCU was led by Karissa Rhoades (Valrico, Fla./Bloomingdale Senior High School) who ended the match with 19 kills. Rhoades' 19 kills was a career-high for the freshman, who also added 13 digs in her first career double-double. On Saturday, Rhoades ended the match against Stetson with 10 kills. The Eagles faced a small deficit early in the second set, falling behind 6-4. The two sides traded points before Rhoades picked up a kill, putting the Eagles in front 12-11, sparking 4-1 run and forcing Stetson to call timeout. With the third set tied at four, Rhoades collected two kills to put FGCU up 7-4. The freshman added another kill as part of a 6-2 run, giving FGCU a 10-6 lead. The Eagles won the set 25-15.
