The redshirt freshman Zach Johnson has an average of 17 points and 4.5 assists per game and was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men’s Basketball Co-Newcomer of the week by league officials. On Thursday, the guard scored 16 points against NJIT and 18 points against USC Upstate on Saturday.

Johnson is shooting 61.3 percent from the floor in league games and leads FGCU´s scoring in A-Sun games with a 17 points-per-game average. Johnson helped the Eagles to win their sixth in a row over the Spartans. The victory against Upstate was the 250th in the program history for FGCU, and also pushed the Eagles’ all-time A-Sun record over .500 (74-73) for the first time since moving to Division-I.
