FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU Athletics has named men's and women's soccer players
Miguel Jaime and
Brittany Brown as recipients of the Northwestern Mutual Academic Student-Athletes of the Month Award for the month of August.
Each month during the school year, the FGCU Athletics Communication Office and Athletic Academic staff will choose a pair of Eagles as the Northwestern Mutual Student-Athlete of the Month. Those selected for the honor have exhibited a combination of superior athletic and overall academic success.
Jaime (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek HS) is an environmental studies major with a 3.59 cumulative GPA and earned Dean's List recognition last spring. The sophomore midfielder has played in all three games this season, helping the Eagles to a 1-1-1 start. He has logged 161 minutes of game action, including a season-high 94 minutes in a scoreless draw against then-No. 3 Georgetown, which is good for third among FGCU midfielders. The Denver, Colo., native also recorded two shots, including one on goal, in a 1-0 defeat at now-No. 7 Wake Forest.
A member of the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team in 2014, Jaime logged 941 minutes while appearing in 17 games and helped man a FGCU squad that allowed the fewest goals in the league (15) during his first year with the Green and Blue. He tallied 12 shots on the year, seven of which came during a three-game span from Sept. 4-12 and two of which were on frame. Additionally, Jaime's lone assist a season ago came on a game-tying goal in a 3-1 victory against Jacksonville to open A-Sun play.
Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena HS) is a biology major who has amassed a cumulative 3.91 GPA in her time at FGCU. She is a four-time member of the Dean's List, two-time member of the President's List and has attended the FGCU Student-Athlete Academics Honors Luncheon in 2014 and 2015. After securing her 32nd career shutout in a 2-0 victory against FIU on Sunday, Sept. 13, Brown became the A-Sun's all-time leader in career shutouts and was also named the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. The senior goalkeeper also took sole possession of the top spot in FGCU history, passing former Eagle
Stephanie Powers' 31 shutouts in both record books.
A two-time selection to the A-Sun All-Conference First Team (2013, 2014), a member of the 2014 A-Sun Academic All-Conference Team and the 2013 A-Sun Goalkeeper of the Year, Brown has amassed a 47-13-8 record as an Eagle, holding the program's all-time wins record. The Rochester, N.Y., native also holds the school record for career goals against average (0.69) and save percentage (.834), while ranking second in saves (241), saves per game (3.44), games played by a goalie (70) and games started by a goalie (64).
