@FGCU_MGolf Heads To Kennesaw State’s Pinetree Intercollegiate

KENNESAW, Ga. – The FGCU men's golf team returns to action Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 20-21, in its second-to-last tournament of the fall season when the Eagles flock to Kennesaw State's Pinetree Intercollegiate.

The 11-team field, which includes the late addition of Liberty just a few days ago, will play 36 holes on Monday, beginning with a split-tee start at 8:10 a.m. before concluding the 54-hole tournament Tuesday with 18 holes off split tees on holes 1 and 10 beginning at 8:10 a.m. Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament on Golfstat.com or by clicking the link at the top of this release.

In addition to FGCU, Liberty and host Kennesaw State, the eight other competing teams are: Akron, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Miami (Ohio), Ohio and Western Carolina. Six of the schools finished in the top-5 of their last tournaments, while Cincinnati, ECU and fellow Atlantic Sun Conference member Lipscomb took home first place in their respective invites. The field includes two of the top-50 teams in the recently-released Golfstat Rankings in No. 18 ECU and No. 34, and fellow A-Sun competitor, Kennesaw State.

This will be the third-straight year that the Eagles have competed in the Pinetree Intercollegiate. The Green and Blue have finished in the top-10 both years, while Kennesaw State has taken first place in 2012 and 2013.

Leading FGCU in just his second tournament of the year is coach Eric Booker, who will utilize the following lineup:

Sr. Blake Biggs (Peoria, Ill./Eastern Florida State College/Peoria Notre Dame HS)
So. Casper Howells (London, England/Bradfield College)
Jr. Austin Schultz (Lakeland, Fla./Florida Southern College/Lee Virtual Instructional Program)
So. Jordan Miller (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Christian School)
Jr. Jake Sherwin (Fort Myers, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS)

Sherwin leads the Eagles with a stroke average of 74.67, while Howells and Miller are both a close second at 75.00. Shultz will be playing in his third tournament for the Green and Blue.

Pinetree Country Club was built in 1962 and underwent a renovation in 2007 by Bill Bergin. Pinetree is one of the finest private courses in Georgia as the layout weaves through the Georgia pines and around natural brooks and creeks while stretching to a length of 7,108 yards. Pinetree has been host to multiple Georgia State Amateur Championships and hosted the 2014 Georgia Open. Legends such as Arnold Palmer, Bobby Jones, Sam Snead and Larry Nelson have called Pinetree home.

Last week, the final round of the Ball State Sagamore Fall Preview at Sagamore Golf Club outside Indianapolis was canceled early Tuesday after heavy rain made the course unplayable. The scores reverted back to the results at the conclusion of Monday's second round, with FGCU finishing 14th. The Eagles posted a 307 team score through the first 18 holes of the day on Monday and then recorded a 313 on the second 18 to finish with a two-round 620 total, five shots behind 13th-place Toledo.

Following the Pinetree Intercollegiate, FGCU will wrap up its fall season by hosting the Homewood/Hilton Garden Airport & FGCU Classic at Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero, Fla. The 54-hole tournament will take place next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 27-28, with 36 holes being contested Monday and the final 18 taking place on Tuesday.

More information will be announced next week, but the tournament field includes in-state foes Florida State and Florida, with the Seminoles currently ranked as the No. 2 team in the nation in the first Golfstat Rankings of the 2014-15 season released this week.
