FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU’s Paulina Speckmaier (Miami Fla./Gulliver Prep/University of Florida) continues to receive accolades for her outstanding performance this past weekend opposite the University of North Florida. Speckmaier has been named the Sunshine Soccer News Women’s College Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 29.

The Miami, Fla. native’s breakout performance against the Ospreys also earned her the second Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award for the Eagles this season. Speckmaier had a hand in all three FGCU goals on Sunday (Sept. 29), all of which came in the final 20 minutes of the game.

The Soccer News Net College Player of the Week Awards are selected by the editors of Soccer News Net’s eight regional news web sites. FGCU falls under the jurisdiction of the Sunshine Soccer News.

Her first score came in the 71st minute when former A-Sun Player of the Week Tabby Tindell (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic HS) found Speckmaier open in the middle of the field. Speckmaier fired the shot home to convert the eventual game-winning score.

The second tally came in the 82nd minute on a breakaway. Speckmaier found herself alone behind the defense and easily converted her second tally of the day.

Speckmaier completed her stat sheet in the 85th minute when she found Shannen Wacker (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa HS) who converted her first goal of the season.

Speckmaier’s performance now has her sitting second among FGCU players with four goals this season. Only Tindell has more with seven. Her nine points are also good for second behind Tindell.

The Eagles will be looking to improve upon their 2-0 start in A-Sun play when they travel to Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb this weekend. FGCU will play at NKU on Friday (Oct. 4) at 7 p.m. before traveling to Lipscomb on Sunday (Oct. 6) for a 1 p.m. matchup.
