OCALA, Fla. – While facing less than ideal weather conditions, the FGCU women’s golf added nine strokes to its first round score to sit at +31 through two rounds at the Morehead State Ocala Invitational.  The Eagles carded a team score of 309 in the second round for a total score of 607 to fall to seventh place in the field of 16 teams.

Day one leader, Daytona State College, maintains first place, while Houston Baptist, North Florida, Murray State and Toledo round out the top five.  The Eagles sit just three stokes out of the top five and 14 strokes behind the tournament leader.  FGCU maintains a lead over in-state rival Stetson and host Morehead State.

“Today we definitely gave some shots back that we could have saved” explained head coach Sarah Trew. “There was one hole in particular we played +5 as a team.  We are just making some silly mental errors that are costing us.  Our goal for tomorrow is to play smart and eliminate those mistakes.”

Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus High School) tops the Eagle lineup with a total card of 149.  Carlson shot a 75 in the first round and followed with a 74 on Monday.  The senior currently ranks 12th in the field of over 90 golfers and just six strokes behind the second-ranked individual.

Sunday’s team leader Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central High School) added seven strokes to her first-round score to produce an 80 in the second round.  Guoynes ranked among the top five after Sunday’s play but fell to 28th with a total score of 153 with one round to play.

Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/S.M.K. Cochrane) rounded out the team’s score with a 79 in the second round.  Yong holds a total score of 154 and sit in 34th place.

Sophomore Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy) competed for the team and recorded a score of 82 in the second round for a total card of 164 through two days.  Detlefsen sits in 72nd place.
