Women's Golf in 18th Place Going Into Final Round of Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic

Kiawah Island, S.C. – One round remains at the 2013 Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Kiawah Island, S.C. and the FGCU women’s golf team sits in 18th place in the 32-team field. Led by sophomore Georgia Price’s (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS) who sit in a tie for 43rd after shooting an 81 (9-over par) on day two.

“Today we really had it going on the front nine and struggled on the back. I feel like we just started thinking about our score too much and it cost us,” said head coach Sarah Trew. “We talked about the things we needed to improve on and are ready to play better tomorrow.”

Host College of Charleston leads the tournament after two rounds with a total score of 596. Campbell (600), Richmond (605), Troy (610) and Daytona State College (612) secure the top five spots on the leaderboard.

The Green and Blue opened the tournament with a score of 311 (23-over par) to position themselves in a tie for seventh on leaderboard after day one. The Eagles stumbled on day two with a total score of 320 (32-over par) and dropped to the 18th spot on the leaderboard.

Price has led the Green and Blue through the first two rounds of competition. The sophomore finished the second round with a 9-over par (81), good for a tie for 43rd place in the 172-player field.

Redshirt freshman Kristin Swindell (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River HS) finished the afternoon tied for 48thth place with a 6-over par 78, while freshman Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy HS) sits in a tie for 56th with a second round of 80 (8-over par).

Redshirt junior Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) and sophomore Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central HS) round out the FGCU scorecard in a tie for 101st and 121st place, respectively. Carlson shot a second round score of 81 (9-over par) and Guoynes finished the day with a score of 83 (11-over par).

The top 18 teams of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic is scheduled for a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on the Cougar Point course. The remaining teams will play a flight championship at Oak Point course which is also scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Since FGCU is 18th on the leaderboard, they will play the Cougar Point course.
