Women's Golf Set to Participate at the Kansas Sunflower Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Under the direction of second-year head coach Sarah Trew, the FGCU women’s golf team will open the 2012 fall season with a trip to Lawrence, Kan. to participate in the 2012 Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational at Alvamar Country Club, Sept. 24-25.

The 12-team field includes Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Florida Gulf Coast, Illinois State, Kansas, Kansas State, Middle Tennessee State, New Mexico State, North Dakota State, Oral Roberts, UMKC, Northern Iowa and Wichita State.

The Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational will be played on the public Championship Course. Layout for the Championship Course is a 6,636-yards, par-72 configuration and the greens feature bent grass. The tournament consists of 36 holes of continuous play on Monday with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. and 18 holes on Tuesday in a staggered shotgun format beginning at 8 a.m.

The Green and Blue will sport the five-person lineup of redshirt juniors Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) and Kristin Swindell (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River HS), sophomore Georgia Price (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS) and freshmen Rebecca Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./JW Mitchell HS) and Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy HS).
