BROUSSARD, La. – Following the final day at the Le Triomphe Invitational at Le Triomphe Golf & Country Club in Broussard, La., the FGCU women’s golf team finished in a tie for 6th on the 16-team leaderboard. Individually, sophomore Georgia Price (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS) led the squad finishing in a tie for 11th place with a total score of 235.

This is the highest finish for the Eagles in the early going of the 2013 spring season. At the season-opening Hurricane Invitational, the Green and Blue finished in 10th place.

“Today we really struggled, the conditions were prefect for scoring and we just didn’t take advantage of it,” said head coach Sarah Trew. “We got a little rattled and started to play scared. We have talent, we just need to get more comfortable with being pushed out of our comfort zone. We will work hard this week and a half to be ready for Kiawah.”

The Eagles wrapped up the second round Tuesday morning and finished with a second round score of 327 to drop back into eighth place after two rounds. The Green and Blue finished out with a final round score of 328 to finish in a tie for 6th place with a total score of 967 (312-327-328).

Lamar finished the tournament on top with a final score of 930 (311-312-307), followed by Xavier with a score of 943 (321-313-309) and host McNeese State with a total score of 950 (312-316-322) to round out the top three teams.

Price led the Eagles carding scores of 78, 80 and 77 for a final score of 235 (19-over par) throughout the three rounds. Sophomore Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central HS) finished with a final score of 240 (75-84-81), in a tie for 19th place after leading the Eagles through day one. Redshirt junior Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) finished in a tie for 36th with scores of 81 and 87 in the final two rounds after carding a 78 in the opening round to finish out with a final score of 246.

Freshman Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy HS) finished in a tie for 39th with a final score of 247 (81-82-84) followed by freshman Rebecca Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./JW Mitchell HS) in 61st place with a final score of 256 (84-86-86) to round out the five competitors for the Green and Blue.

The Green and Blue will take a week off and then return to the course when they head to Kiawah Island, S.C. to take part in the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic on March 3-5. Results and a recaps from the tournament will be available at FGCUATHLETICS.com at the conclusion of each day.
