FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team moved up two positions to pick up the No. 6 spot in the latest ESPN Mid-Major Rankings (Feb. 20).
This marks the third time this season that the Eagles have appeared in ESPN’s Mid-Major Top 10. FGCU was ranked No. 8 in the Feb. 5 rankings.
Said ESPN of FGCU, “This isn't quite the version of Florida Gulf Coast we saw a season ago. This group doesn't shoot the ball as well from the 3-point line or overall and doesn't rebound as well, but tell it to the rest of the Atlantic Sun. The Eagles have yet to win a conference game by anything other than double digits. The next two games are against teams in (distant) second and third places, beginning with a weekend trip to Stetson and a home game next week against Mercer.”
The Green and Blue, winners of an A-Sun record 33 consecutive conference regular season games, will be back in action on Saturday, February 23, when they travel to DeLand to battle A-Sun rival Stetson (19-7, 12-3 A-Sun). Tipoff at the Edmunds Center, where the Hatters are 12-0 this season and have won 16 consecutive games, is set for 1 p.m. and the game can be seen live on ASun.TV. A win over Stetson on Saturday afternoon will guarantee the Green and Blue at least a share of the A-Sun Regular Season crown.
