FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast women's basketball team moved up two spots to the No. 10 position in the tenth edition of the 2012-13 CollegeInsider.com Women's Basketball Mid-Major Top 25 poll, announced on Tuesday night. The Eagles were ranked No. 12 in last week's poll.
Gonzaga along with Delaware, Toledo, Chattanooga and Green Bay hold the top five spots in the poll.
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast.
The Eagles (11-5, 4-0 A-Sun), winners of 22 consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference regular season games, are the lone Atlantic Sun Conference team represented in the Top 25 and are the only A-Sun school represented in the top 25, while Stetson received one vote.
In FGCU’s last game (Jan. 7), Sarah Hansen (McKean, Pa./General McLane HS) turned in her fifth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds as the FGCU women’s basketball team had an off night shooting the ball but used a solid defensive effort to defeat UNF, 53-42, at Alico Arena.
The Green and Blue are back in action on Saturday, January 12 when they head to Johnson City, Tenn. to take on the Lady Bucs of ETSU (3-7, 1-2 A-Sun). Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
