FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team earned the No. 8 spot in the second edition of the 2012-13 CollegeInsider.com Women's Basketball Mid-Major Top 25 poll, announced on Tuesday evening. The Eagles were ranked No. 9 in last week’s poll.
Delaware, ranked No. 17 in both the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll and AP Top 25, along with Green Bay, Gonzaga, Princeton and BYU hold the top five spots in the poll.
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast.
The Green and Blue are the lone Atlantic Sun Conference team represented in the Top 25, while Stetson received 12 votes.
In the Green and Blue’s last game (Nov. 10), seven Eagles scored in double figures, led by freshman Katie Meador’s (Salem, Ill./Salem Community HS) 11 point, 12 rebound performance, as FGCU drained 12 three-pointers in a 100-31 rout of Warner in the 2012-13 season opener.
The Green and Blue, who are 43-12 all-time in the month of November and 151-10 all-time at Alico Arena, will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 14 for a matchup with in-state foe FIU. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
