Reigning A-Sun Champs Remain Ranked No. 3 in Mid-Major Top 25

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team earned the No. 3 spot, for the eighth consecutive week, in this week’s version of the Women’s Mid-Major Top 25 poll that was released on Tuesday evening (March 6).

Delaware and Green Bay are the two teams ranked higher than FGCU in this week’s poll. The Eagles trail the Phoenix by 28 points for the No. 2 slot.

The women's Mid-Major Top 25 is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conference.

FGCU is the lone Atlantic Sun Conference team represented in this week’s Top 25. Stetson is receiving votes.

The A-Sun Champion Eagles (29-2), who own of the nation’s third longest winning streak (21) behind Baylor (31) and Stanford (25) and also have the fifth best winning percentage (.935) in Division I, will learn their postseason fate on Monday, March 12. The 2012 NCAA Women's Basketball Selection Show will take place at 7:00 p.m. ET.
