Kennedy Earns First Career A-Sun Newcomer of the Week Award

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Redshirt-junior Brittany Kennedy (Spokane, Wash./Lewis and Clark HS/Oregon State) helped lead FGCU to a pair of conference victories last week, and for her performances, she claimed her first career A-Sun Newcomer of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

For the week, Kennedy averaged 9.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 4.0 assists.

In FGCU's 72-61 win at UNF (Feb. 2), Kennedy turned in her best all-around performance since she joined the team, finishing with 15 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and four assists in 34 minutes.

Kennedy, in the Green and Blue's 70-60 win over Jacksonville (Feb. 4), registered four points, seven boards, five assists and two steals.

The Green and Blue, who are 59-8 all-time in the month of February, will now return home to host their final three home games of the season. FGCU will take on Lipscomb (Feb. 9) and Belmont (Feb. 11), before facing Stetson on ‘Senior Day’ (Feb. 18).

With the FGCU women’s basketball team, who ranks No. 29 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, having already clinched a spot in the 2012 A-Sun Tournament, FGCU Athletics is now offering ticket packages for the conference tournament at Mercer in Macon, Ga. Fans can get ticket booklets that include admission into every game of the men’s and women’s tournament (14 games) for $75. All tickets are general admission. Tickets can be purchased by calling the FGCU ticket office Monday-Friday, between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 239-590-7145, in person at the Alico Arena ticket office or by ordering online at www.fgcuathletics.com/tickets. Tickets through the FGCU ticket office must be purchased by 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27.
